With Ronald Volker having already secured the overall victory with wins in the opening two legs, and opting to sit out the third final, it was Marc Rheinard who became the only other driver to appear at the top of the Xenon Modified time sheets here this weekend in Kastellaun. The defending ETS Champion took a rather easy win but only after he made contact the rear of early leader Freddy Sudhoff on lap 4, the body once again tucking under on the green Hot Bodies TCX. Rheinard said afterwards that the incident was unfortunate and ’shit for Freddy’ but reflecting on Volker’s domination of the event said his Tamiya team needs to find something before the next round in Czech Republic next month. The 3-time World Champion believes the level of support provided by Yokomo here in Germany was key to Volker’s performance.
With Rheinard winning by over 2.5 seconds, the interest in the race was the battle for second which at one point was between four cars. In the end Hot Bodies driver Dominik Fleischmann resisted pressure from Team Associated’s Juho Levanen who in turn had to deal with challenges from Yannic Pruemper and Viktor Wilck. A much improved Pruemper, the German teenager finally showed the kind of speed we expect from the former race winner, but a mistake in the chicane while trying a move on Levanen dropped him back and he eventually finished 6th. Having traction rolled off the track on the opening lap Wilck worked his way back up the order but also failed to find a way passed the Finnish ace who crossed the line in third 15/100th ahead of the Swede. The result of the third leg would see Levanen, Wilck and Sudhoff all tie for the final podium place on 7 points but Wilck’s Leg 3 race time would see him take the 3rd overall.
In Pro-Stock Eric Dankel, having already secured the overall win, completed a perfect day with a clean sweep of victories from pole. A rather chaotic race, the Xray driver managed to lap everyone up to second place which went to Martin Hofer which was good enough to secure the Yokomo driver the final step on the podium. Finishing third, backing up his second place finish in Leg 2, 16-year-old Tim Wahl made it a successful 1-2 result for Xray’s new T3 ‘11 as he finished runner-up overall.
A superb start to the 2010/11 ‘Yokomo Euro Touring Series’, with a record 262 entries registering championship points, the teams and drivers have six weeks to prepare for the next stage of the World’s biggest touring car championship. Making a very successful debut on the ETS calendar last season, the series returns to the Czech Republic on November 26-28 when we will see if anyone can respond to the pace laid down by the on-form Volker.

Ronald Volker has taken the overall victory at the 2010/11 ‘Yokomo Euro Touring Series’ season opener in Kastellaun with another dominant performance in the second A-Main. Starting from pole, the Team Yokomo driver once again lead from start to finish to secure his first ever ETS success. Helped by a great battle for second, the German said it was an easier race than the earlier final as he was more confident with his BD5 this time round. Praising the support from his Yokomo team, in particular his mechanic Yukijiro Umino, the European Indoor and Outdoor Champion said he is already looking forward to next month’s Czech ETS encounter which is taking place in the same venue as he will defend his Indoor title early next year. With the battle for the other two podium places wide open Volker has opted to sit out the third leg of the final.
While Volker pulled clear into the distance the big battle was between Freddy Sudhoff, Marc Rheinard & Viktor Wilck, the TRF pairing chasing down Sudhoff’s green Hot Bodies. Unfortunately on lap 25 Wilck tagged the back of the TCX causing the body to tuck and his TRF416 to spin allowing Rheinard through to take second. Although Sudhoff fared out worst from the clash rejoining to finish fourth behind Wilck the ultra professional racer was quick to point out afterwards that it was not Viktor’s fault and that it had been a really enjoyable battle.
Rheinard said his Tamiya was not good in the early part of the race and he had to let his team-mate, who started just behind on the grid, through. As the race progressed the car started to work well allowing him to put in the fastest lap as he caught back up to the battle but he was unable to find a way passed until the pair made contact. Despite his best effort over the last seven laps there was nothing he could do to dent Volker’s lead.
Also wrapping up his first ever ETS victory early was Pro-Stock Top Qualifier Eric Dankel. The Xray driver said his T3 11 was not as good as in the opening leg and but he controlled the race despite a strong challenge in the dying moments of the race from the Hot Bodies of Oliver Franke. Delighted to set a new fastest lap for the track, Franke said afterwards that catching was one thing but getting passed on this layout was another but he thinks a new set of tyres for the third and final leg should give him the edge he needs to bag a win. Once again Martin Hofer failed to mount the expected challenge but on this occasion it was not his own doing. With all the cars on the grid throughout the driver introductions he believes his speedo went into a sleep mode and at the start it just creeped off the line getting tagged by most of the cars starting behind him. Champion Alexander Stocker had a good run from 8th on the grid to complete the Top 3.

Ronald Volker has taken a convincing win in the opening leg of the Xenon Modified final here in Kastellaun this morning heading home old rival Marc Rheinard. Starting from pole the Team Yokomo driver continued his domination of the event leading from start to finish but afterwards said the race was not as straight forward as it looked. With his LRP powered BD5 working well at the start he was able to pull a gap on the pack but in the latter part of the race the car become very loose. ‘I had to drive very carefully in the last part of the race. I knew Marc was fast but I could see he was taking a lot risks so I just tried to stay cool and focus on my driving to maintain the gap and it payed off as he made a few mistakes’.
Setting the fastest lap of the race Rheinard was happy with his Speed Passion powered Tamiya but not himself, ‘The car was working better now but I made too many small mistakes’. Having started 3rd, the German got passed Freddy Sudhoff and looked to be making inroads on Volker but a number of mistakes canceled out his progress. The World Champion will leave his TRF416 set-up the as is but will replace the rear arms as one has become a little sloppy.
The start of the race didn’t go as planned for ‘Fast Freddy’ Sudhoff, the Hot Bodies driver saying he had too much traction and in the opening part of the race it was a challenge to keep it on four wheels. As the race progressed the handling improved allowing the German to recover and find a way passed factory Associated driver Juho Levanen for third. Sudhoff, whose TCX is fitted with a self created chassis plate, said he will change his tyre prep for the next final and leave the set-up as is. Levanen enjoyed a great start to the race going from 6th to 3rd. Having a great battle with Sudhoff he said he eventually had to let the German go and settle for fourth as his TC6 lost pace after the 3 minute mark.
Last year’s winner Viktor Wilck who lined up fourth on the grid saw his chances end on the opening lap after Dominik Fleishmann made contact with the rear of his Tamiya causing the body to tuck. Despite being able to run a similar pace in terms of lap times to Volker and team-mate Rheinard he would only finished 9th.
In the Xray Pro-Stock final, Top Qualifier Eric Dankel took a very convincing victory to head home an Xray 1-2 with Tim Wahl finishing second. The German said he was helped by the early battle for second which gave him the chance to make a break. With Pro-Stock drivers permitted a new set of Xenon tyres for the finals, Dankel opted to change and was very happy with how the car worked on the fresh rubber. Martin Hofer, who was expected to be his main challenge, also ran fresh tyres but his Yokomo didn’t respond as well causing his BD5 to be very edgy for the first part of the race. The runner-up here last year, he said nerves also got the better of him saying he thought too much about the race rather than just getting on with driving. With Hofer out of sorts it allowed 16-year-old Wahl to take second. Starting from 4th on the grid the German was delighted by his performance and is hopeful of repeating it in the next race.
Defending champion Alexander Stocker, who has switched from his Hot Bodies to Hofer’s spare Yokomo chassis, set the fastest lap of the race but an early incident hampered his progress and he could only finished 6th. Encouraged by the handling of the BD5, the winner of this race on the last three occasions is confident of better thing in Legs 2 & 3.

Volker completes clean sweep in qualifying Categories - Racing, Report - comments closed
He topped practice yesterday and today he remained at the top of the time sheets TQ’ing all five round of qualifying here at the opening race of the 2010/11 ‘Yokomo Euro Touring Series’. The German ace, who has been at the top of his game this season, topped the last of the 118 heats which were run over 14 hours in Kastellaun today with the fastest 5-minute run.
With Volker having already wrapped up pole for the Xenon Modified A-Main the big interest in the last qualifier was how the rest of the grid would fair out and it was Freddy Sudhoff who was to win that battle. Setting the second fastest time, the result moves his Hot Bodies up the number 2 starting position on the grid ahead of ETS Champion Marc Rheinard who ended the day with the third fastest time.
Q5 saw a very determined Viktor Wilck set a new track record as he looked to move up the grid but his Tamiya flew off the track ending the Swede challenge and he drops to fourth in the starting order. Starting behind him will be Dominik Fleischmann followed by Associated’s Juho Levanen. Deserving of a bonus from Losi for his performance here among the world class factory line up of drivers, super fast French driver Lucas Urbain will start 7th with his Speed Passion power JRX-S a car that was designed a number of years ago.
Completing the grid for the main event tomorrow are Yokomo’s Yannic Prümper, TRF’s Elliot Harper and Team Xray’s Alexander Hagberg. The unfortunate BQ honour falls to Junior European Indoor Champion Adrian Berntsen but the Norwegian faces some high class opposition in the B-Main from the likes of Martin Hudy, Teemu Leino, Andy Moore and European finalist Loic Jasmin.
After TQ’ing the final round of qualifying Eric Dankel will start tomorrow’s Pro-Stock A-Main from pole. Running his Xray T3′11, which is fitted with Spec-R gear diffs both front and rear, the German Indoor Champion claimed his fourth TQ run of the five rounds of qualifying. Although he has the number one starting position for the three leg final the 19-year-old nitro champion is not taking anything for granted tomorrow saying its not going to be easy, as racing is totally different to qualifying.
Despite his worst run of qualifying Martin Hofer, the only other driver to TQ a round this weekend, will line up second on the grid and is confident he can take the challenge to Dankel, a driver he has plenty of experience competing against. The runner-up here 12 months ago, the Yokomo driver will change to a harder front ant-roll bar on his BD5 and other than that feels the car is good enough for the victory. Behind him on the grid will be Dutch ETS winner Oliver Franke, second fastest in Q5. Two drivers at the rear end of the grid who will be ones to watch are defending champion Alexander Stocker, who has never been beaten at this race, and Vice-Champion Daniel Wohlgemuth who start 8th and 9th respectively.
