Groskamp TQ’s Home Race
Jilles Groskamp has taken the TQ for his home round of the ETS. Its no real surprise that Holland’s best known international driver will start tomorrow’s Mod finals from the number 1 grid position but the Tamiya driver was made to work hard for it.
Winning the first qualifier Groskamp was pipped for the win in Heat 2 by quick local driver Hugo Van der Berg. Groskamp regained the upper hand in round 3 but was again pushed by Vd Berg and his Xray. However in the fourth and final qualifier of Day 2 Groskamp showed he meant business by setting fastest lap of the day on his opening lap to take the win from team-mate Viktor Wilck and Serpent’s Rene Cornella who both recorded their fastest runs of the meeting. While Wilck appears to have cured his run time issues Marc Rheinard has not and currently finds himself 8th in the overall qualifying ranking.
The final round of Pro Stock qualifying for today saw Chris Van Der Hagen at the controls of a Tamiya TRF416 take the win from Schumacher pairing Jimmy Maddison and Ronald Bestman. Vd Hagen had a terrible third qualifier managing only 6 laps but came back to put in a superb penultimate run to claim the maximum 155 points on offer. On individual lap times it was Rob Kuijper’s S400 that had the fastest lap producing a time of 18.80. Vasco Christiaanse sat out the heat to save his Sweep control tires for the finals.
That bring’s Day 2 of the Much More backed Euro Touring Series to a close with Groskamp and Christiaanse able to sleep easy tonight in the knowledge that they have the pole in the bag. For others it may be a sleepless night as they have just one more opportunity to try and make the A Mains.
