Prumper & Volker complete Gran Canaria podium
With Tamiya’s Viktor Wilck having sewn up the overall win at Round 3 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in the second A-Main, a Yokomo 1-2 in the final main would see Yannic Prumper and Ronald Volker completed the podium on the series’ second visit to the Spanish holiday Island. With Volker starting at the front of the grid as the Top Qualifier sat out the race, the defending champion would lead the closing race from start to finish shadowed by team-mate Prumper who would take the overall runners up spot. Despite setting the fastest lap of the race Prumper maintained team orders behind Volker for whom the win would be enough to secure him the final step on the podium ahead of Team Xray’s Alexander Hagberg on tie break. Starting third for the race Hagberg looked to be part of a four car battle up front but a tap from behind from Marc Rheinard caused his body to tuck. Although the Swede didn’t lose position the incident was enough for him to lose contact with the leaders. Rheinard would just hold on to take 4th in the leg just ahead of last year’s winner Christopher Krapp, the pair finishing 5th & 7th overall respectively.
In the Xray Pro Stock class, in which Marek Cerny wrapped up overall victory in A2, the 3rd A-Main was a very entertaining race. Awesomatix driver Viljami Kutvonen lead a closely fought race for 10-laps before he was clipped by the No.8 starting Xray of Bart Wubben. The benefactor of this was defending champion Zdenko Kunak who would stay out front to win by 6/10th from the battling Yokomo of Olivier Bultynck and Schumacher of former champion Martin Hofer. The result would secure Kunak second overall, his best result of the 2012/13 season, with Kutvonen who finished 5th completing the podium for the 3rd round of the world famous championship which next moves on to Apeldoorn in the Netherlands over the weekend of May 17-19.
