Prumper & Rheinard complete podium at fahr(T)raum
Yannic Prumper made it a Yokomo 1-2 at the fourth round of the Euro Touring Series in Mattsee, Austria, the 20-year-old seeing off a strong challenge from Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard who completed the podium at the fahr(T)raum hosted event. With Ronald Volker having wrapped up his 10th ETS win in A2, the closing race of the all new event on the ETS calendar was very much a two way battle for second overall. Having put his team-mate under immense pressure in A2, it was Prumper’s turn to face the pressure as 3-time World Champion Rheinard slipped by his TRF team-mate Viktor Wilck early on to make the German work for his win. Rheinard looked to have got by his former team-mate but with the next corner a left hander and the TRF418 on the outside, the two touched. With Rheinard’s car spinning 180 degrees following the contact it was enough to give Prumper a gap he would maintain to the finish.
‘It is way easier to apply the pressure than take it’, was Prumper’s reaction to the battle. Pleased to join Volker on the podium, the Yokomo duo having locked out the front of the grid in qualifying, he said the weekend’s result couldn’t be better. Commenting on Rheinard’s attempted pass, he said luckily he had ‘the stronger car’ adding after his rivals spin the rest of the race was pretty straight forward. A big fan of the Luxembourg track that will host the penultimate round of the championship in a months time, he said he is looking forward to going one better there, him keen to rack up his 3rd ETS win.
‘It was a good fight, I almost had him’ that was Rheinard’s summary of A3. The former champion, who is already out of the title chase this season after a poor Round 2 & 3, said even though he got down the inside of the Yokomo unfortunately the next corner was a left turn. After the spin, even though he only lost 3/10ths on Prumper, he said the gap was too much to make back up on such a track. Setting the fastest lap of the three A-Mains, Rheinard said the problem this weekend was their lack of pace in qualifying but he said having been able to match both Volker and Prumper today was very encouraging. With Kiyo Suzuki and top Japanese racer/Tamiya employee Takayuki Kono travelling from Japan to support the team this weekend, he said the support was a big help and ‘for sure (they are) making progress with the car’.
With the Xray Pro-Stock Class winner having also been decided in A2, Jan Ratheisky taking his third win of the season, A3 was also about deciding the remaining podium positions. Despite winning, Jan Ratheisky still contested A3 taking the win over Xray team-mate Marek Cerny who would secure second overall. Another good run from 8th on the grid, Awesomatix’s Oliver Franke would finish the leg 3 a result that would see him complete the podium.
