Volker tops seeding at ETS Italy

Ronald Volker is the top seed for the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Italy.  Having set the fastest time in the opening controlled practice, the Yokomo driver bettered his time in the second round when wind caused many drivers, including Volker, issues. Behind the World Champion, Jilles Groskamp would find a big improvement over his opening practice to set the second fastest time to demote his Infinity team-mate Marc Rheinard to third.  With Rheinard and Viktor Wilck failing to go quicker in the final practice, Akio Sobue would be the next driver to improve going from P8 in CP1 to P5.  The Japanese driver’s improvement would drop last year’s winner Bruno Coelho to sixth, the Xray driver believing additive is the reason for him being off the pace.

‘They were difficult track conditions, a huge wind picked up in the run.  I could see cars spinning off and had two spins myself. I actually thought it was raining’, said Volker after the final practice.  With a noticeable drop in temperature as the clouds set in, the German continued, ‘My car is still not easy to drive but it looked like I was not the only one with that problem.  Of course it is good to be at the top of the times for now but it is the 5-minutes that’s going to count’.   Having changed his car after feeling it was ‘bouncing too much’ in CP1, he said while its still not perfect he will stick with his latest set-up for Q1 tonight to get a feel for how it works in the expected colder conditions.

Improving his 3-lap pace by over 6/10ths of a second, Groskamp said the improvement came from a shock spring change.  The Infinity driver said, ‘The car feels good now. I didn’t know it was so fast and was kind of surprised when I saw the times’.  Having been happy with the 5-minute pace of his IF14 in practice, he said now he had also found 3-lap pace which was ‘nice’ going to into the first qualifier.  He added ‘it’s going to be tricky to complete the 5-minutes because that time suddenly everyone was spinning out in the second half of the run. I think it was because of the wind, but it got super loose’.  Happy with his car, the former World Champion plans to run it unchanged for Q1.

‘I struggled a bit in the last the controlled practice but it was a good for the team as we ended up with 4 cars in the Top 10’, was Rheinard’s reaction after CP2. The ETS Spain runner-up continued, ‘my car felt loose, there was a little more wind so it was not easy’.  Having refreshed the shocks on his Muchmore powered IF14 before the final practice, he plans to run the car as is for the first qualifier.  Having also failed to improve his time, when asked about his run Wilck replied, ‘my idea didn’t work, it felt almost the same.  It was still just pushing.  I will just try to get a 5-minute run in and see where it puts me’.

Also making a shock set-up change to his Infinity, Sobue said while it was an improvement on CP1 the car is ‘still loose’ and ‘still needs more steering’ admitting the wind affected the car. Still not a fan of the Riccione track, describing it as ‘too bumpy’, the first time visitor plans to make ‘small set-up changes’ to try get a more consistent car for Q1.  He said, ‘If you make one mistake you end up with dust on the tyres so its better to go with a safe set-up and get a clean 5-minutes’.

Having set the pace in Free Practice, Coelho said, ‘I was first and now 6th.  Before I was running shop bought additive and now we have switched to the race additive but I have zero traction’.  The Xray driver continued, ‘for the first few laps the car is lost on the track and my laps times are the same as the times I set at the end of the run. They should be opposite, fast at the start and slower at the end. The car is good, it is just the additive and we need to find out what is the problem’.

Volker fastest in first controlled practice

Ronald Volker has set the fastest time in the opening round of controlled practice at ETS Italy. The Yokomo driver set the fastest 3-consecutive laps of the Riccione track ahead of Marc Rheinard with the big surprise being Viktor Wilck, the Serpent driver going third quickest.  Having set the pace over the 7 rounds of free practice from Rheinard & Volker, Bruno Coelho would post the fourth fastest time on the first of the two attempts drivers will have to determine the seeding for qualifying.  Returning to racing after a short illness, Viljami Kutvonen would post the 5th fastest time with Nicolas Lee completing the Top 6.

‘It was a decent controlled practice’, was Volker’s reaction after the run with the German adding, ‘3 laps on asphalt doesn’t count for a lot’.  Describing that his BD8 ‘felt good over the 4-minutes’, the World Champion continued, ‘we just need to make it more comfortable over the bumps and we are good to go’.   Elaborating further he said, ‘the car was bouncing a little too much which cause me to lose the car once so we’ll change the shock set-up for the next one’.

Commenting on his pace, Rheinard said, ‘2nd is not a bad start. I know I messed up my third lap’.   The Infinity driver continued, ‘My car felt better in the free practice before but it’s the 5-minutes that is important and overall we have a good base to start with’.  Not a huge fan of the track, when asked about its famous bump he replied, ‘its scary, many people are flying off there.  You have to go to the outside but the kerb now has no grip because they painted it so it scary every time you go through’.

A while since he featured at the sharp end of the time sheets at an ETS race, Wilck said, ‘for 3-laps its OK but there is still too much drop off’.  The Serpent driver said the problem is the car ‘starts to push pretty bad’, adding, ‘for 3-laps I was almost the same pace as Marc but then he could just pull away’.  Having exhausted potential cures for the problem yesterday and this morning in free practice, the Swede concluded, ‘we need to do some more thinking’.

Having tried a different set-up on his Xray for the first controlled practice, Coelho said, ‘we didn’t have the right set-up that time but everything will be good for the next one’.  Winner here last year, the reigning ETS Champion added, ‘from looking at the lap times I think my car works better than the others but we’ll only see when we start qualifying’.  Commenting on the bump, he said, ‘for sure it is worse this year or we are passing faster.  On the outside you risk getting on the grass and the inside is the not the right line for the corner.  This is going to be what sorts out the big boys, you can get an advantage there or lose everything’.

‘It nice to be back and the sun is shining so everything is good’ was Viljami outlook after CP1.  Runner-up behind Coelho here last year, the Awesomatix driver said, ‘I think the car is good but I’m making small driver mistakes all the time’.  Describing his A800 as ‘edgy’ for the final free practice, the Finn made changes to cure that for CP1 but this resulted in the car dropping off too much towards the end.  For the final controlled practice he said he will go with a set-up in between the two points as well as try to get the driver ‘more dialled in’.

Lee summed up his P6 as ‘OK’ but added it is ‘not so fast just consistent’.  Planning to try more set-up changes in final practice, the Yokomo driver said then he would decide what is the best set-up for this evening’s opening qualifier.  Suffering with ‘no grip before’ in the morning’s free practice, the Singaporean said changes to get grip were now resulting in his tyres overheating.  Behind Lee, Jilles Groskamp would post the 7th fastest time ahead of Infinity team-mate Akio Sobue, this being the Japanese driver’s first time to the track.

Track Focus – Road Race Riccione

Name – Road Race Riccione RC Circuit Marco Simoncelli
Country – Italy
Location – Riccione
Host Club – Road Race Riccione
Surface – Asphalt
Direction – Anti-clockwise
Previous ETS races hosted – 2015 (Winner Yannic Prumper) & 2016 (Winner Bruno Coelho)

Road Race Riccione RC Circuit Marco Simoncelli is the venue for Round 4 of the Euro Touring Series, this being the third time the Italian circuit has hosted the championship.  First appearing on the calendar in 2015 after a long search by the championship organisers to find a venue to bring Italy back onto the ETS calendar, the track was initially a big hit with racers.  Not just fans of the track, it was also the location that was been key to the success of the race.  One of Italy’s famed tourist destinations, the majority of racers get to wake in the hotels to a view of the beach and thankfully this year the weather is looking a lot more accommodating to the wearing of shorts and sitting outside the restaurants once the day at the track is complete.

With World Champion Ronald Volker declaring it one of his favourite tracks on his first visit, the Yokomo driver still stands by that feeling however the track’s famous bump appears to be becoming a bigger issue.  Situated just before the corner entering onto the main straight it has proven to be a place where many drivers’ chances of success have come to a violent end, their cars usually getting launched in a roll up the grass banking along the main straight.  Volker said, ‘This year I see a lot more people crashing there’.  Team-mate Meen Vejrak , who is a podium finisher at the track, added, ‘the good line is getting narrower, I think the bump has got wider and its much harder to avoid it’. One driver getting his first taste of the track this year is Infinity’s Akio Sobue.  The Japanese ace has not been enamoured by the track, quickly pointing to the bump and saying ‘I don’t like this’.

ETS Italy crucial for Coelho’s rivals

The Yokomo Euro Touring Series travels to Italy this weekend (12-14 May) with the outcome of the Riccione event crucial to the rivals of reigning champion Bruno Coelho.  With the first half of the season complete it is advantage Coelho with the Xray driver registering two wins from the three races.  With last month’s third round in Spain marking the start of the outdoor season, the Portuguese driver took an important psychological strike against his rivals as the rest of the season will be battled out on asphalt.  Only the ETS’s third visit to the Riccione track, it is a venue that has proven a happy hunting ground for Coelho with it being one of three wins he claimed last season en route to the title.  The race’s other winner is Yannic Prumper who took the spoils in 2015 but its Coelho’s main title challengers Marc Rheinard and Ronald Volker who need to be the third winner at the beach side holiday destination in order to heat things up in the Season #10 title chase.

The only other winner so far this season, with hard work paying dividends at Round 2 in Germany, Volker failed to repeat that form in Madrid.  While he would end up third, the World Champion was never a threat for the win. While Riccione has never been good to the Yokomo driver in terms of a result, it is one of the German’s favourite tracks and he knows he can be quick there having taken the TQ in 2015. Unfortunately Coelho’s ETS asphalt debut that weekend resulted in the pair clashing in the finals with Volker finishing 4th while Coelho completed the podium behind Prumper and Meen Vejrak.  Last year would fare worse as he would only qualify & finish 5th but the 5-time ETS champion wants his title back as do Yokomo, so they can be expected to come out fighting for the win this weekend.

With Madrid only his second outing with touring car newcomers Infinity, Rheinard would be the only one to keep Coelho honest there.  The 4-time World Champion had a rejuvenated focus for the first asphalt race and pushed his rival hard in qualifying, the TQ having to be settled on the tie-breaker in favour of Coelho.  Like Volker, Riccione is not a track which Rheinard has enjoyed particular success although he did at least make the podium last year.  With third on his Infinity debut and P2 on his second outing the German will be looking to complete the trend with a win.  Again Jilles Groskamp will form the team’s core EP team for the weekend and the former World Champion’s input within the team is a factor that should never be underestimated.  Having come close to the podium the last two outings, finishing fourth in both Germany and Spain, Akio Sobue will be aiming to join his team-mate Rheinard in the mix for the win as he makes his debut on the Road Race Riccione track.

Making a welcomed return to the ETS having been forced to miss ETS Spain due to illness, Viljami Kutvonen was impressive at Riccione last year.  The Awesomatix driver would be Coelho’s closest challenger qualifying & finishing second on what is still his best ETS performance to date. Having since equalled that performance on carpet at this season’s opening round in the Czech Republic, the Finn is well up for his comeback as he chases his & Awesomatix’s first win in the premiere class.

In Pro Stock, the championship has followed a similar pattern to the Volante Modified class with winner of the season opener Alexandre Duchet adding a second win in Spain. The win was decided in A3 after reigning champion Jan Ratheisky had snatched an A1 victory on the line from his Xray team-mate.  With Awesomatix’ Oliver Bultynck winning at Round 2, Ratheisky has yet to register a victory this season.  In the Scorpion Power Formula class, Ratheisky did manage to end his winless streak as he denied Top Qualifier Bultynck the win at Round 3.  Overall it is winner of the opening two rounds David Ehrbar who leads the standings despite being off form in Madrid.

Rheinard wins A3 to claim 2nd in Madrid

Marc Rheinard has wrapped up the first ETS race in mainland Spain with a win in A3 that would see the Infinity driver leave Madrid with a 2nd place.  With Xray’s Bruno Coelho wrapping up his second win of the season in A2, the third A-Main was a showdown between Rheinard and ETS Round 2 winner Ronald Volker for the runners-up spot.  With Rheinard leading away the field as Coelho watched on, the German was untouchable winning with ease from Volker who had to work hard to fend off Akio Sobue for the early part of the race.  Also third in A2, Sobue would end up 4th overall ahead of Infinity team-mate Jilles Groskamp.

‘I lost the chance to win in A2 when I spun out but now for sure I would have been able to match Bruno’s pace’, was Rheinard’s reaction after the race.  The only driver to challenge Coelho in qualifying by taking two rounds to end up tied on points with the reigning champion, he continued, ‘for sure I want to win but 2nd is a good result for our first race on asphalt’. Having made the podium on his ETS debut for Infinity at Round 2 but having never been in the mix for the win on that occasion, Rheinard said, ‘we are now in the right direction with the car and that is reflected in the team result here, we had four cars in the final and 3 of them ni the Top 5.  We know now we are pretty close’.   Looking to the fourth round of the championship next month in Italy, he concluded, ‘our result here makes us very positive for Riccione’.

Commenting on his A3 performance, Volker said, ‘right away I felt I didn’t have enough forward traction for some reason so I couldn’t do anything to stay with Marc’. Maintaining his second in the points standings with today’s result, he continued, ‘3rd is not the position I wanted before we came here but it is not too bad for the championship.  We are still in the game but definitely have to beat Bruno the next one’. With Riccione ‘one of (his) favourite tracks’, the World Champion said he is confident ‘this time round we are closer to Bruno than in the passed’.

Again missing the podium, Sobue said, ‘it was too difficult to overtake. Ronald’s car was very loose but offline it was low traction so I could not pass.  I tried to overtake him at the end of the straight around the outside but it was too dusty’.  The Japanese driver said the weekend showed the potential is there with the ProtoTC and ‘next time I will be on the podium’.

In the Scorpion Power Formula Class there was a lot more at stake as the previous encounters produced different winners. Leading away the field, Top Qualifier Olivier Bultynck again let his lead slip away, getting out of shape and letting champion Ratheisky to the front.  While the Belgian would mount a comeback, another mistake put amends to his chances of the win allowing Ratheisky to take his first overall win of the season.  Infinity driver Jitse Miedema would complete the podium.  In Pro Stock, Ratheisky was also in contention for the win and he certainly deserves any awards there are for effort.  Having snatched the win from Xray team-mate Alexandre Duchet in A1 right at the line, the German went for it again but was too tight with his line and his T4 came to a sudden stop against the kart tyre marking the corner.  Winning by 0.09, Duchet wrapped up his second win of the season with Ratheisky runner-up and Tamiya driver Christian Donath completing the podium.

Coelho wins ETS Spain

Bruno Coelho has drawn first blood at the first asphalt race of the Euro Touring Series season, the Xray driver winning with relative ease with another win in A2 on the championship’s first visit to Spain.  Top Qualifier for the Madrid based third round, having dominating the opening final, the reigning champion looked like he might have to work a bit harder second time round. With Marc Rheinard make a much stronger start and keeping with the reigning champion with Ronald Volker in toe, initially a more interesting race looked on the cards but it was short lived.  With his Infinity stepping out in the first right hander of the lap, Rheinard would spin out, his race effectively done. While Volker would take up the challenge for a time, even with Coelho having a big moment at the end of the straight, the Portuguese ace would complete the perfect weekend to extend his lead in the championship with his parents on hand to watch his master class.

‘What can I say, it was the perfect weekend’, was how Coelho summed up what is his second win of the season. He continued, ‘From the beginning we were fastest and we didn’t have to change the car much.  We ran ARS and it worked pretty amazing’.  Explaining his moment at the end of the straight, highlighting himself that he had a few moments during A2, he said, ‘there was less grip this time and also I think maybe there was dust on the track because Rheinard also spin out’.  His first race running Savox servos, he said there is always a feeling of anxiety when you are running something new but the feeling all weekend was perfect so its a great start.  With the first outdoor race completing the first half of the 10th season of the ETS, Coelho, who was delighted to win in front of his parents, said, ‘to win the first outdoor race is a good confidence boost for the rest of the season’.  With Round 4 taking place at Riccione in Italy where he took the win last year he said, ‘My results have been good at Riccione so far and I like the track and the atmosphere there.  I also really like the Italian people also so I am looking forward to it’.

Giving his thoughts on A2, finishing a much closer 3/10th behind Coelho, Volker said, ‘things changed after Marc spun and immediately I felt I could hang on to Bruno this time’.  He continued, ‘We both checked out from the field and I tried as hard as I could but couldn’t get close enough to attack’.  Putting his improved performance down to having ‘changed quite a lot for the heat’, he said ‘it seemed to work a lot better and we’ll adjust one more small thing for the last one’.  With it set to be a battle between himself and Coelho, he concluded, ‘We will try to save the podium if not try to take P2’.

Finishing A2 ninth, Infinity team-mate Akio Sobue completing the Top 3, Rheinard said, ‘I had a good start this time and was close (to Coelho) at the end of the straight but the car start to slide in the right corner and I spun out.  The felt tweaked then after the contact’.  The German continued, ‘I’m a bit disappointed because I could have made a good race.  You can see Ronald was now closer to Bruno so I think his car was not as good so think I could have pushed him for the win’.  Effectively starting from pole for A3 as Coelho sits out the closing race of the weekend at the ASOGER track, he said, ‘I will go for the podium in the next one’.

While the Volante Modified class winner was decide in A3, the Pro Stock and Formula overall winners are still to be decided.  In the Xray Pro Stock class, Top Qualifier Alexandre Duchet made sure he didn’t get caught out second time round.  After another great battle with his Xray team-mate Jan Ratheisky, Tamiya driver Christian Donath joined the fight for the lead which saw him and Ratheisky touch at the start of the last lap.  This lifted the pressure on Frenchman Duchet who took the win with Donath getting second and Ratheisky third.  In Formula, A1 winner Olivier Bultynck looked to have the overall win in the bag before making the first of series of mistakes that dropped the Team Shepherd to eventually finish 7th.  Up front Ratheisky came out the better of a battle with Infinity driver Jitse Miedema with Spain’s Ivan de La Calle third.

Coelho takes easy A1 win

Bruno Coelho took an easy win in the opening A-Main at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series this morning in Madrid.  Top Qualifier on the championship’s first visit to Spain, the Xray driver had no problems pulling clear of the field winning from Marc Rheinard by 1.8-seconds.  With the Top 5 finishing as they started, it was Ronald Volker who completed the Top 3, the Yokomo driver having a lonely race running in between the Infinity’s of Rheinard and Akio Sobue.

‘It was a perfect run I think’, was how Coelho summed up his text book drive.  The reigning champion continued, ‘It was super cold but my car was very good at the beginning and also the rest of the race’.  Setting the fastest lap of the race on his third lap, he said, ‘the first 5-laps I could pull away which shows our car works very good in cold conditions and I will try to do the same in the next round’.

‘Pretty OK start I would say, although to watch it was probably a bit boring’, was Rheinard’s reaction. Having enjoyed his best ETS qualifying result for some time, the German continued, ‘I lost a lot on the first lap, like 7/10th, and I need to make a perfect lap to match his (Coelho) speed or catch him’.  Coming into the weekend with a new level of determination, the 4-time World Champion said, ‘overall I’m happy but A2 will be different story because it will be hotter conditions which suits our car better.  I hope I can be closer and can put him under pressure more’.

Reacting to his race, Volker summed it up with ‘an absolutely boring final’.   Starting third, the World Champion said, ‘I felt I couldn’t attack at the beginning and lost time to Marc in that period.  At the same time Akio was dropping back behind me so after 1-minute I was just driving around’.  He continued, ‘the car was fine after the first few laps but it was too late to do anything.  My fastest laps at the start are too slow to the other guys’.  Asked about A2, he replied, ‘I hope to be able to attack more.  We expected the weather to be warmer so considering this we will make some small changes for it’.

In terms of close finishes it was the Xray Pro Stock class that took the honour in A1.  A good battle between Xray team-mates Alexandre Duchet and Jan Ratheisky. With Top Qualifier Duchet leading for the entire 5-minutes in the final dash to the line Champion Ratheisky got a better run to the loop to steal the win by 0.028 of a second.  Ratheisky would also play his part in the best race of the morning which came in the Scorpion Power Formula class.  Starting third on the grid he would have a fantastic battle with Top Qualifier Olivier Bultynck as the swapped position but the Team Shepherd driver would come eventually out the winner as Ratheisky got out of shape on the final lap ending his challenge.  Behind them Helge Johannessen would have a great race from 9th on the grid to finish 3rd.

Coelho Top Qualifier at ETS Spain

Despite Marc Rheinard taking a somewhat surprise second TQ in the final round of qualifying at ETS Spain, it is Bruno Coelho who is Top Qualifier on the championship’s first visit to the country.  The Xray driver’s second TQ of the season, having been on pole for the season opener, he claimed the top spot for the first outdoor race of the season thanks to his Q2 time being the fastest of the weekend.  Rheinard’s best qualifying of the season, the German lines up ahead of Ronald Volker, the Yokomo driver struggling in the final qualifier and starting in an Infinity sandwich with Akio Sobue and Jilles Groskamp completing the top half of the grid.

Going into final qualifying with one hand already on the overall TQ, knowing that it would take a miracle for Rheinard to beat his Q2 time due both the track conditions and the fact his rival was on used tyres, Coelho was pleased to bag an extra point for pole.  He said, ‘For sure it is very good to get another point, all the points are very important, but on used tyres my car was very slow this time’.  Looking to the finals however the Portuguese driver said, ‘we have a new set of tyres each final tomorrow and all weekend we have worked on the car for that so everything looks good for tomorrow’.  Asked about his expectations of the racing in the finals, he replied, ‘for sure everything is open.  Marc is super fast and for sure he will push maximum to pass me but I know I have a good car.  So lets see what happens’.

‘Actually it was really good for old tyres’ was how Rheinard summed up the final qualifier.  Using a combination of the rears from both his allocated sets of qualifying tyres, he said he was ‘surprised’ with the match working ‘really good’.  Originally setting himself up to use his final heat more as a test opportunity rather than a qualifier, the 4-time World Champion tried a different shock piston on his ProtoTC which he said ‘was better for me’. ‘Looking forward to tomorrow’, he concluded ‘catching Bruno was not a bad sign’.

Having bounced back with his domination of Round 2 of the championship, Volker was clearly disappointed with how the transition to asphalt is working out this weekend. Having taken a surprise P2 in the second qualifier on used tyres, the World Champion said, ‘this time used tyres were not good.  There was not enough forward traction’.  Spinning on his fourth lap, he said, ‘with a lot of guys running new tyres it was clear after, that it was not going to be a valuable run for me’.  Not having the worry of used tyres for the finals, the ETS’ most crowned champion said, ‘its not too bad starting third but we need to step the game up in order to go up in the final tomorrow’.  Asked about passing opportunities on the large track he felt the right side presented some places but only if you can force the driver in front into a error’.

Getting fourth on the grid with his Q1 and 2 results when he was on new tyres, Sobue said his car was so loose, something wich was due to a set-up change he didn’t like and being on used tyres.   Describing his own starting position as ‘OK’, the Japanese driver was ‘happy’ that all four of the Infinity factory drivers had made the final – fellow countryman Naoto Matsukura making his first ETS A-Main in a very long time by qualifying 10th.  A better starting position was on the cards for Groskamp but the 2014 World Champion crashed while on a Top 3 pace in the final qualifier.  Sobue said while he believes it will be hard to overtake that wont stop him from trying, him confident he has a competitive car on new tyres.

‘I’m super happy to make the final and even more happy that Marc could challenge Bruno.  4 cars in the final and 3 in the Top 5 is a great result for the team’, was Groskamp’s overview of qualifying.  The Thailand based Dutchman said, ‘I used my new tyres in Q1 & 2 so running against guys on new tyres it was hard to get a good run although Marc did it with using rear rear tyres.  I didn’t do it’.  Getting a P10 for the last qualifier, he said, ‘this was the maximum I could do’.  Asked his opinion on how the finals might pan out he replied, ‘On new tyres my car is really good now so I’m looking forward to tomorrow but I think it will be really hard to overtake.  If no one crashes it will just be a train.  Marc challenging Bruno in the final qualifier shows our car has really good grip and I think Marc has a real chance tomorrow’.  Starting behind Groskamp will be Yokomo protege Naoki Akiyama, new tyres allowing the Japanese driver to claim a P2 in the final qualifier and bump him up into the A-Main pushing out team-mate Christopher Krapp who takes the BQ.

In the Xray Pro Stock class it is also an Xray Top Qualifier as Alexandre Duchet starts on pole, like Coelho, thanks to taking the opening two rounds of qualifying.  Taking the final qualifier, Champion Jan Ratheisky starts second with Nicolai Lindegaard making it an Xray lockout at the front.  Taking the third qualifier, the Tamiya of Round 1 Top Qualifier Christian Donath starts fourth.  In the Scorpion Power Formula class Olivier Bultynck gave Team Shepherd their first ETS TQ ahead of Infinity driver Jitse Miedema and back to back champion Ratheisky.  Having won the opening two rounds of the season, three in a row is looking a big ask in Madrid for David Ehrbar as the Serpent designer starts 7th on the grid.
