Marc Fischer was the winner of the second A-Main at the Euro Touring Series in Hrotovice after errors by Top Qualifier Ronald Volker allowed the Team Serpent driver to catch and pass the defending champion. Volker looked like he was in for an easy race after Leg 1 winner Freddy Sudhoff got out of shape on the second lap. The incident saw the Awesomatix driver’s car collect the Yokomo of Dominik Fleischmann who suffered a body tuck. Showing great sportsmanship Sudhoff waited on his fellow German put this left him 10th and out of contention of the race.
Up front Volker was pulling clear of the field extending his lead to 2.9 seconds ahead of Fischer who was busy seeing off a strong challenge from double ETS race winner Yannic Prumper. On lap 12 of 25 the race for the lead was to hot up as Volker made a mistake which would cost him over two seconds allowing Fischer to get close enough to smell a potential win. Setting the fastest lap of the race Fischer chased down the championship standings leader forcing Volker to make a second mistake just as they came up to complete the penultimate lap. With the BD7 out of shape, the 411 ERYX took the lead with the Awesomatix of Finnish hot shot Viljami Kutvonen also finding a way passed Volker who would cross the finish line in 3rd. The result means that going into the final A-Main four drivers, Sudhoff, Fischer, Volker & Kutvonen, can all potentially take the overall win for Round 2 of the world famous electric touring car series.
Fischer said, at the start of the race once Sudhoff has his incident his focus was on holding on to second rather than trying to challenge Volker for the win as he was under pressure from Prumper. Able get some breathing space between himself and the No. 5 car he said he had settled for second but when he saw Volker’s mistake he said he knew it was ‘game on’. With the handling of his Serpent improving as the race progressed Fischer said he knew he could have a go for the win and he was delighted to come away with the win. Seeking his first ETS podium, he said he doesn’t have any plans for the deciding A-Main but added that its ‘wide open’ and he knows he has a strong car in the second half of the race so he is just going to wait to see how it plays out.
In the Xray Pro Stock class Marek Cerny had the opposite race to Volker, the Xray driver not putting a wheel wrong to back up last nights Leg 1 win to secure the overall win. His second win from pole in the ETS, the new Xray signing’s win today helps bring the Slovak company’s tally to 10 wins in the series’ biggest class.
The Speed Passion Formula class was also wrapped up in Leg 2 with championship leader Jan Asmer taking his Tamiya to another tone to tone win, ahead of defending champion Herbert Weber, continuing his domination of the ETS’ newest class.

Team Awesomatix’s Freddy Sudhoff took advantage of a rare mistake by Team Yokomo’s Ronald Volker in the opening leg of the A-Main of the second round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in the Czech Republic to take a popular win ahead of his fellow German with Team Serpent’s Marc Fischer completing the Top 3. Top Qualifier Volker caught a dot on the second lap of the race unsettling his BD7 and allowing Sudhoff to pass but ‘Fast Freddy’ was to earn the win on merit as he pulled clean of the pack setting the fastest lap of the 5-minute race in the process. While Volker made a late challenge over the final four laps of the race reducing the gap to half a second by the finish he was never a serious treat.
After the race the relief on Sudhoff’s face was pretty clear with him summing up his first ETS A-Main final win by saying it was the ‘first time all the big pressure of the big guns was on him’. Having copied the set-up used by his super fast team-mate Viljami Kutvonen for the opening Main, Freddy said his A700 EX was the best it has been all weekend and he paid tribute to how the entire team have worked together in Hrotovice, the Russian company getting two cars in the Mod A-Main and three cars in the Pro Stock A-Main. Admitting that although he has a slightly better pace than Volker without further mistakes, which are rarely made by the 2-time ETS champion, it is going to be hard to find a way passed the No.1 car. To top off a great day for Sudhoff he went on to win the ETS Dash for Cash pocketing himself EUR 200 for just two well executed laps of the track in the reverse direction.
Volker said after he clipped the dot he had no choice but to let Sudhoff passed as trying to hold the position would have led to a pile up and despite giving everything he wasn’t able to mount a challenge to take the lead back. Describing his BD7 as a little difficult to drive, he said his plan for tomorrow is to stay in front and put the pressure back on Sudhoff to find a way passed.
Finishing where he started Serpent’s Marc Fischer said it was an easy 3rd place. The German said his 411 ERYX had a little understeer at the start of the race but after 2-minutes it felt really good allowing him to close for a time on Volker. Hoping he can get his car to work better from the start of the race tomorrow, Fischer, who has never made an ETS podium before, said he hopes Sudhoff can put enough pressure Volker so that he can capitalise on them slowing each other up.
In the Xray Pro Stock and Speed Passion Formula classes their was little action with the Top 3 finishing as they started. Top Qualifier in Pro Stock Czech driver Marek Cerny took a comfortable win for Xray over the Awesomatix of Viljami Kutvonen who in turn finished 1.8 seconds ahead of defending champion Zdenko Kunak. Winner of the 2012/13 ETS season opener Jan Amser looks on track for his second win as he dominated the first A-main by a massive 7-seconds from Dai Sakaguchi who held off a challenge from Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard.

Chassis Name – Yokomo BD7
Motor – LRP
ESC – LRP
Batteries – LRP
Tires – Ride (handout)
Radio/Servos – Sanwa
Remarks – Two time defending ETS Champion Ronald Volker continues his dominance of the series, the BD7 being particularly good on carpet, by taking his 9th TQ in the premiere class. The car he is running is kit standard but he has chose to use double joints on the front of the car. The only change to the car’s setup compared to that used last time out in Germany is the removal of the front chassis stiffening post to give it more flex and in turn more steering.

ESC – Speed Passion
Batteries – Thunder Power
Tires – Ride (handout)
Radio/Servos – Sanwa
Remarks – Marc is running the all new 411 ERYX from Serpent and the car looks to be working really well with the German putting his example on 3rd on the grid in this highly competitive field. The car he is running is the kit standard car, with the exception of the floating servo mount which he has not had time to mount to the car having arrived so late to the track. For the event Marc is running softer damping on the front shocks to help the car turn into the many hairpins at this track.

Widely recognized as the World’s best touring car driver on carpet, defending ETS Champion Ronald Volker is Top Qualifier for the second round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Hrotovice in the Czech Republic. The Yokomo ace secured pole position for the A-main with his third TQ run of the day in the fourth & final round of qualifying setting the fastest 5-minute run of the weekend ahead of Team Xray’s Adrian Berntsen who finally got to show his talents albeit too late for the Norwegian to secure a place in the main event.
Volker’s ninth time to TQ a round of the ETS, the dominator of the opening round of the 2012/13 season will start the Mains ahead of Freddy Sudhoff who going in the the final qualifier was the only driver who could potential deny the defending champion from carrying the No.1 race number on his BD7. Unfortunately for Sudhoff a radio problem in the warm-up meant the factory Awesomatix driver was unable to start Q4. Although the demise of ‘Fast Freddy’ secured pole position, Volker used the heat to lay down his intentions for the finals as he posted a new outright fastest lap of the weekend with an impressive 11.975, Viljami Kutvonen the only other driver able to break into the 11 second lap doing so in Q3.
In a grid that is made up of eight German drivers, Team Serpent’s Marc Fischer will start third equaling his previous best starting position which he achieved in Apeldoorn last year. Finishing a disappointing 7th on that occasion Fischer said he hopes things will go better this time round but said his qualifying performance is a great promotion for Serpent’s new 411 ERYX chassis. Really happy with how the car is working he said he hopes he can at least come away from the weekend with a podium finish. Asked if he could take the challenge to Volker & Sudhoff he said that on pace it is very close but passing on this track would be difficult adding that his best chance is that Sudhoff can pressure Volker in to an error.
Fischer will face plenty of pressure himself from behind with Volker’s team-mates Dominic Fleischmann and Yannic Prumper starting directly behind him. The best place non German will be Kutvonen whose Awesomatix will start seventh ahead of the only Tamiya on the grid which will be driven by Marc Rheinard. Kutvonen has shown great speed this weekend with his A700 and the 20-year-old will be one to watch in the finals.
Highest placed Xray on the grid will be Marco Kaufmann who starts eighth in front of team-mate Alexander Hagberg, the Swede having another difficult weekend. Completing the grid to make Yokomo the most popular car on the grid is Eric Dankel. The German had some serious luck on his side in the final qualifier as having just crossed the finish line in a time that secured him 10th on the grid the wires fell of the motor in his DB7!!
In the Xray Pro Stock class new Xray signing Marek Cerny took his second ever overall ETS TQ. The 18-year-old Czech driver whose previous TQ was with Yokomo in Gran Canaria, a race he went on to win, said his T4 has been really good all day something he said was down to the valuable input he has been getting from the car’s designer Martin Hudy. Having won from pole before Cerny said he was not nervous about the finals as he is confident he has the car to get the job done. Viljami Kutvonen will start behind him and while he admits the Awesomatix is quick the Finn is prone to making mistakes and so his approach will be to try and drive a clean error free race. Pro Stock Champion Zdenko Kunak, who missed the season opener, will start third with his Xray.
The Speed Passion Formula class saw Jan Asmer completed a clean sweep as he set the pace in all four qualifiers to put his Tamiya F104 on pole position. The German who is a Serpent team driver and will switch to the company’s pending Formula chassis later in the season, TQ’d & won the season opener and based on his pace this weekend looks set for a repeat performance. Dai Sakaguchi, who is running a HPI chassis, starts second with class debutant Marc Rheinard lining up third ahead of defending champion Herbert Weber.
