These shoes were made for walking

ETS Wooden Shoes

During the break after qualifying, the Dutch racers who participated at the Danish round of the Euro Touring Series presented the series organisers, Uwe Rheinard and Scotty Ernst, with a very special and very typical Dutch gift. Custom painted by Richard Arts, the guys received each a pair of great looking wooden shoes sporting the Euro Touring Series logo. Both Uwe and Scotty will wear these shoes for the rest of the event, so when they are walking strange the next time you see them, you will now know why.

The guys behind the wooden shoes

Scotty Ernst said that “All the work that goes into making this series and you get a group of guys that believe in what we’re doing is the right thing and show their support for the series. And then they give you something like this as a gift, that wasnt just bought in a store but planned by the group, this makes all the work worth while.”

Mod racers up the pace in final Qualifier

Bart Wubben

If the final qualifier is anything to go by it looks like we are in for some thrilling race action in the upcoming Modified A Finals here in Holland. Top Qualifier Jilles Groskamp posted the fastest 5 minute run of qualifying in the final round with over half the Mod runners posting their own personal TQ runs this morning.

Marc Rheinard

Bart Wubben was on target to become the only driver to record a 19-lapper but ran out of power in the final minute of the run allowing Groskamp to post the fastest time from Hugo Van der Berg. Marc Rheinard finally cured his run time problem but has had to sacrifice outright speed, however despite this still the former World Champion still managed the fifth fastest overall run of the weekend and will start from 7th on the grid.

Modified A Final Grid
1. Jilles Groskamp (Tamiya) – 465
2. Hugo Van Den Berg (Xray) – 461

Denmark’s Nicolai Nielsen showed he means business today by taking his Serpent S400 to victory in the fifth and final round of qualifying here this morning at the MACH in the Netherlands. Nielsen was very pleased with his car after the run and is confident that he can take the challenge to the locals come the three leg finals this afternoon. Top international Pro stock racer Jimmy Maddison who held second overnight falls two places on the grid and his Schumacher Mi3 will now start behind Nielsen.

Jan Van Steeg

For ETS Championship points leader Jan Van Steeg the Dutch leg of the Much More backed series is not going well and the TOP driver, who recorded the second fastest lap of the qualifiers, will line up second on the grid for the B Final.

Groskamp TQ’s Home Race

Groskamp Action

Jilles Groskamp has taken the TQ for his home round of the ETS. Its no real surprise that Holland’s best known international driver will start tomorrow’s Mod finals from the number 1 grid position but the Tamiya driver was made to work hard for it.

Winning the first qualifier Groskamp was pipped for the win in Heat 2 by quick local driver Hugo Van der Berg. Groskamp regained the upper hand in round 3 but was again pushed by Vd Berg and his Xray. However in the fourth and final qualifier of Day 2 Groskamp showed he meant business by setting fastest lap of the day on his opening lap to take the win from team-mate Viktor Wilck and Serpent’s Rene Cornella who both recorded their fastest runs of the meeting. While Wilck appears to have cured his run time issues Marc Rheinard has not and currently finds himself 8th in the overall qualifying ranking.

Chris Van Der Hagen

The final round of Pro Stock qualifying for today saw Chris Van Der Hagen at the controls of a Tamiya TRF416 take the win from Schumacher pairing Jimmy Maddison and Ronald Bestman. Vd Hagen had a terrible third qualifier managing only 6 laps but came back to put in a superb penultimate run to claim the maximum 155 points on offer. On individual lap times it was Rob Kuijper’s S400 that had the fastest lap producing a time of 18.80. Vasco Christiaanse sat out the heat to save his Sweep control tires for the finals.

That bring’s Day 2 of the Much More backed Euro Touring Series to a close with Groskamp and Christiaanse able to sleep easy tonight in the knowledge that they have the pole in the bag. For others it may be a sleepless night as they have just one more opportunity to try and make the A Mains.

Groskamp takes Q3 from Vd Berg

Groskamp qualifying action

Jilles Groskamp has moved closer to securing his second ETS TQ after he won the third round of qualifying at his home track today with the fastest Mod run of the event so far. Winning the opening heat, Groskamp had to give way to fellow Dutchman Hugo Van der Berg in the second heat and in the third the pair fought it out for win with the victory finally going the way of the international Tamiya team driver. Third fastest was Luke Van Essen driving a Corally who was running in a different heat where he was was quickest from his brother Sven Van Essen.

Viktor Wilck

Viktor Wilck set the fourth fastest time managing his best points haul of the day but the young Swede is still struggling to go the full 5 minutes. For the last heat today he will make his last attempt to make the time with his current car configuration but is considering a motor change for tomorrow, possibly switching to a 4.0T brushless motor. Marc Rheinard appears to be struggling here in Holland but you can never rule out the German star and once he gets run timed sorted he should be back in the hunt.
