Rheinard wins exciting 2nd A-Main

Marc Rheinard

After a rather dull opening leg of the Xenon Modified A-Main at Apeldoorn the second final provided plenty of action with Marc Rheinard taking the win over the Yokomo’s of Ronald Volker and Yannic Prumper.  The winner of Leg 1, Top Qualifier Jilles Groskamp got completely out of shape as the cars left the start line and ended up on the grass eventually recovering to finish fourth. Also getting loose off the line Rheinard, who started to the right of his team-mate, managed to stay on the asphalt and took up the early lead only to through it away on lap 3.  Rolling his TRF417 one corner earlier than where he lost his chance of victory in the opening leg, this allowed Volker to take the lead.  Heading the pack for 5 laps he was also to roll handing the lead back to the No.2 car of Rheinard.

Volker said afterwards he was lucky to take the lead and admitted he always knew Rheinard would catch him up again, however he did not plan to give the lead back to the World Champion just as easily as he did.

Jilles Groskamp

Setting the fastest lap of the race as he battled for third with Prumper, Groskamp joked afterwards that his Orion electrics ‘had too much power’ but continued that he just had less traction this time round, something which Rheinard said he also had a problem with.

John Bruins

In Pro Stock John Bruins fended off pressure from standings leader Martin Hofer to back up his Leg 1 win and take the overall victory for the Dutch round.  The Dutch racer’s first international win it also marks the first success for Tamiya in Pro Stock, the largest class of the ETS.  A very popular winner with the local crowd, Bruins admitted he had to battle his nerves but said the relief & joy of winning at home was amazing.  Bruins will sit out the third and final leg allowing the other nine drivers to battle for the other podium placings.
