Volker tops practice at inaugural Italian ETS encounter

Ronald Volker

While the event may be all new to the Yokomo Euro Touring Series the name at the top of the time sheets at the end of four rounds of practice is not with Team Yokomo’s Ronald Volker setting the pace. The reigning champion, who got his title defense off to the perfect start by dominating the opening round of the 2011/12 season in Germany, set a best time of 13.209 to ensure he is the top seed for qualifying ahead of the Tamiya’s of Viktor Wilck, who recorded a best time of 13.236, and Marc Rheinard who posted a 13.271 average lap.

Liking the layout of the track the Italian race organisers have created, which he described as technical, Volker said the surface is a little bumpy and this makes it very challenging. Rolling his LRP powered BDX5 WXi twice on his fourth and fastest practice run the German said his car feels pretty good but the combination of the track design and the bumps make it very difficult to pull off a clean run.

Wilck

Wilck said he was happy with his practice pace and how his Thunder Power powered Tamiya TRF417X was handling.  Like Volker, the Swede said the track is the biggest challenge here in Scandiano because if you push too hard and the car slides it can easily catch a bump resulting in a roll.  Not planning any set-up changes for this evening’s opening round of qualifying which will bring the first day of action to a close Wilck said his focus will be on putting in consistent laps times rather than pushing for outright speed.  TRF team-mate Rheinard said his Speed Passion powered car is OK but due to the bumps feels very inconsistent to drive and he plans to make adjustments to the droop and shock oil for Q1.

Yannic Prumper

Setting the fourth fastest practice time, Yannic Prumper is happy with his Yokomo ahead of the opening qualifier.  The German teenager complained of a lack of steering at the end of P3 but after switching to a heavier oil in the rear shocks for the final practice he found it a lot easier to drive.  Yokomo team-mate Eric Dankel set the sixth fastest time but plans to follow Prumper’s direction and change his rear shock oil.  Having only signed for Yokomo just ahead of the start of the ETS season, Dankel said he has been busy testing since the opening round in October and is now far more comfortable with the Japanese chassis and is hopeful of a stronger performance here in Italy.

Christopher Krapp

In between Prumper and Dankel with the fourth fastest time was factory Kyosho driver Christopher Krapp.  The German, who scored his first ever ETS podium at this season’s opener, said his TF6 is fast but not consistent enough.  Very edgy he will glue his tyre walls for the first of the four scheduled rounds of qualifying.  Asked if he could repeat his Round 1 performance the World Championship finalist said his first target of the weekend was to qualify in the Top 10 and he would wait to see how it goes after that.

Heading the Xray challenge in the Ride Modified class was Alexander Hagberg.  The Swede managed only the seventh fastest time just ahead of team-mate Martin Hudy saying he is struggling with the feeling of his T3 2012 something he is putting down more to himself rather than the car.  Hudy, who went from 700w to 1500w oil in his rear diff for the final practice, said his car is very easy to drive and while not the fastest out there he can run it with mistakes.

Completing the Top 10 in practice and therefore making up the final two places in the top heat were Team Associated’s Juho Levanen and Hot Bodies driver Dominik Fleischmann.  Other than making some small adjustments due to bumpiness of the track Levanen said he has done little with his TC6 set-up as he expects it to be pretty good for a consistent run over five minutes.

Lamberto Collari

In a country better known for its nitro racing the first visit of the ETS to Italy has attracted a massive entry creating a great atmosphere in the pit area.  Among the entry are three of nitro racing’s top names with Lamberto Collari, Dario Balestri and Andrea Pirani competing as electric racing novices this weekend.

A nine time World Champion in 1:8 Onroad, Collari is the most experienced of the trio as this is his second time to race an electric touring car.  One of the true legends of the sport, the Italian says he is really enjoying the experience describing it as being totally different to what he is used too.  Being looked after this weekend by the very capable Toni Rheinard, the biggest difference Collari is finding is that of getting his braking right and then getting the timing right for when to get back on the power but added jokingly if he had a few hours of practice he is confident he could perfect this.  Known for being a master of strategy in longer gas races, the Italian said thats not possible here and you’ve got to give 100% for the full 5-minutes.  Asked if he planned to do more electric racing in the future he said he would very much like to look at the possibilities of being able to contest the Electric Touring Car World Championships.  At the end of practice Collari was a very respectable 22nd fastest.

Balestri

Balestri, a two time 1:10 200mm European Champion and a podium finisher at last year’s 1:8 Worlds, said electric racing is an all new experience for him.  Running a Team Magic 4RS2 this weekend, the Italian said he was just here for fun but said maybe in the future it could become something more serious for him but this year his focus was firmly on the 200mm World Championships in Thailand.  Having not raced electric before or on carpet, Balestri said knowing what set-up changes to make after each run is proving his biggest challenge but he hopes he can get his head around it before the end of the weekend.

Racing in the new Formula class that has been added to ETS for the remainder of the 2011/12 season, Andrea Pirani is here as part of his birthday present.  Due to celebrate his 23rd birthday on Sunday he was invited to come race at the ETS race by the owner of WRC who make a 1:10 Formula car.  A 1:8 Onroad specialist, Pirani said its very different to nitro but he really likes the electric RC paddock.  Enjoying the 2WD Formula car which runs a handout Speed Passion 21T Motor/Speedo combo, he said in the future he would like to try his hand at the modified Touring Car class to see how he would compare with the likes of Volker and Rheinard.

Volker dominates first A-Main

Ronald Volker

Reigning Yokomo Euro Touring Series champion Ronald Volker looks set to be on target to make the perfect start to his title defence with the Top Qualifier dominating the opening A-Main in Mülheim-Kärlich, Germany.  Setting the fastest lap of the 5-minute encounter, the factory Yokomo driver took the win by over 5 seconds from the Tamiya’s of Marc Rheinard and Viktor Wilck who both struggled to match his pace.

Only in the opening few laps did it ever look like Volker might have a race on his hands but once the German found his rhythm he just checked out forcing his rivals into mistakes as they were forced to push their cars to the limit to try stay in contention.  Volker said afterwards he felt a little pressure ahead of the first race and drove too carefully for the opening laps as a result allowing Rheinard to run on his tail, the World Champion making contact with the No.1 Yokomo at the start of the third lap.  Getting his confidence with his LRP powered BD5 WXi, which he will leave the same for the second A-Main, he said once he started to push he could see his rival Rheinard couldn’t match his pace and he knew he had control of the race.

Volker dominates first ETS A-Main

Rheinard said his TRF417x had the ‘worst combination’ of handling with it pushing, lacking corner speed and also traction rolling.  An 8-time ETS race winner the former champion said he had to steer the car using the throttle.  Suffering an unexplainable spin out, which Wilck repeated a few laps later at the same spot on the track, Rheinard said it been a frustrating8 weekend as on asphalt they have a great car but carpet is proving extremely difficult.  With half  of the six ETS rounds on carpet he said the team must find a solution if they are to have any chance of retaking the title they held for the first three season of the ETS.

Christopher Krapp

Starting from sixth on the grid factory Kyosho driver Christopher Krapp finished fourth but felt 2nd was possible.  After struggling with his Orion powered TF6 for the opening laps Krapp said the car came good and he was able to close in to Wilck but in his quest to find a way past the Swede he made a mistake.  A World finalist, Krapp feels with better tyre prep finishing on the podium this evening is on the cards.

Dominic Fleischmann

Best placed Hot Bodies was Dominic Fleischmann who took his LRP powered TCX to fifth ahead of the best placed Xray of Zdenko Kunák who started 10th in the grid. Starting fourth on the grid Andy Moore summed up his race as ‘One to forget’.  The British Champion said his HPI Flux powered TCX was loose off the line and then wanted to be up on two wheels.  His lack of pace was to cause an early pile up as the much faster No.5 Xray of Alexander Hagberg had to check up to avoid the slower Hot Bodies and in turn got hit from behind.  Hagberg eventually finished 7th, one place ahead of Moore.

Zdenko Kunák

In the Xray Pro stock A-Main Zdenko Kunák converted his first ever ETS TQ into a win in the first A-Main seeing off pressure from the Hot Bodies of Oliver Franke.  Kunák looked to have the race in the bag early on but Franke started to close the gap and under pressure the Xray driver made a mistake on lap 17 of 23 to allow the German to get to get on his bumper. With four laps to go Franke then had a moment of his own allowing the 18-year-old Slovak to take the win by 9/10ths of a second.  Starting from fifth on the grid reigning Champion Martin Hofer came through to take third despite a spring change on his Schumacher leaving him with very little steering.

Kunák TQs Pro-Stock

Zdenko Kunák

Team Xray’s Zdenko Kunák claimed his first ever TQ in the Euro Touring Series when he ran the fastest 5-minutes of the weekend in the fourth & final round of qualifying this evening in Germany to put his T3 2012 on pole for tomorrow’s Pro-Stock A-Main. Pushed hard by the Awesomatix of Carsten Madsen, the Slovak driver took the round by just 6/10th of a second from the Dane to deny former race winner Oliver Franke from claiming his first TQ in the series.

A regular at ETS events, in which he competes in both the Xray Pro Stock and Ride Modified classes, Kunák was delighted at clinching his first TQ honour but says he expects a tough race tomorrow with Oliver Franke. Admitting that starting from pole position adds a little pressure he said he hopes to be able to take advantage of having a clean track in front of him.

The 18-year-old looked like he might pull off a surprise double in the final round of qualifying as he set the early pace in the top heat of Modified.  Setting the pace he was to get it wrong on his sixth lap losing 7 seconds but thanks to strong runs in Q1 & Q3 he makes both A-Mains starting the Ride Modified A-Main from 10th.

Grid

While Ronald Volker wrapped up the overall TQ honours for the premier class in the third round of qualifying, Q4 would determine the order of the 9 drivers who would start behind the reigning champion. Despite a quick roll at the first corner on his opening lap, Volker made it four out of four.  Having used the run to try a different set-up on his Yokomo the German said his car was ‘dialed’ and he could push it really hard allowing him to run a new fastest lap of 12.773.  Catching his team-mate Yannic Prümper in the run, he said he opted not to pass him as he knew a good run was more important to the teenager.

Prümper set the third fastest time of the round which saw him scrape into the A-Main.  Finishing on the same points as Kunák he will start 9th tomorrow.  Having run Volker’s set-up in Q3 and found it not aggressive enough for his driving style, the former race winner decided to run it again as it made for a very safe car and that gamble was to pay off.  Starting from the back of the grid and with little to lose by taking risks Prümper said he will switch back to a more aggressive set-up for tomorrow.

Andy Moore

Setting the second fastest time of the closing qualifier Andy Moore was much happier with his Hot Bodies.  Running less rear toe on the HPI Flux powered TCX he said it resulted in a huge improvement in how he could take the first corner at the end of the main straight although just like Volker the British Champion also had a quick roll there on his first lap which he said was just down to driver error.  Admitting he is still some way off the pace of Volker and Rheinard he said he has his eye on a podium finish for tomorrow when he will start fourth behind Viktor Wilck.  Hot Bodies are the best represented brand in the final with Freddy Südhoff and Dominik Fleischmann securing 7th & 8th respectively on the grid.

Behind Moore, Alexander Hagberg is the best placed Xray on the grid lining up in what is sure to be a disappointing fifth position for the determined Swede.  Completing the Top 6, Christopher Krapp carries all the hope of Kyosho.

Volker is Top Qualifier for ETS season opener

Volker is Top Qualifier for ETS season opener

Team Yokomo’s Ronald Volker is Top Qualifier for the opening round of the 2011/12 Yokomo Euro Touring Series.  Having TQ’d the opening two qualifiers in Germany, the reigning champion laid claim to his sixth ETS pole position when he topped Q3 with a new fastest time. The German once again outpaced the Tamiya of Marc Rheinard with Xray’s Alexander Hagberg enjoying his best round to set the third fastest time.

Having changed the set-up of his front shocks for the penultimate qualifier in order to improve corner speed, Volker said his BD5 WXi was better but nearer to the edge and on lap 19 of 23 he found that edge losing over a second when he suffered a roll.  The loss of time resulted in the German missing out on the first 24 lap of the weekend.  Delighted to be starting his title defense from pole position tomorrow he said he will use the last round of qualifying this evening to try a different set-up which he described as ‘risky’.

Naoto & Yannic

Currently the only Yokomo driver in the final, Volker’s team-mates need to pull something out of the bag in Q4.  Switching to the same set-up as his team-mate Naoto Matsukura was a lot happier with his car and set an almost identical lap time to that of Volkers fastest lap of the event but a couple of mistakes meant the IIC Champion was only 15th for the round. Yannic Prümper also tried Volker’s set-up but it didn’t suit the German teenager’s driving style as the car was not aggressive enough and he was only 9th.

Rheinard

Runner-up to Volker in all three qualifier’s Rheinard said he still does not have a good feeling with his Tamiya TRF417x.  Having changed springs for Q3 he said it made little difference. Not sure what direction to take the driver with the most ETS wins to his credit said he will try different shiming of the ackermann for Q4 that was suggested to him by Matsukura as he has run out of ideas of his own to try.

Behind the top 3, Kyosho’s Christopher Krapp and Hot Bodies’ Dominik Fleischmann both put in their best runs setting the fourth and fifth fastest times respectively while Andy Moore completed the Top 6.

Oliver Franke

In Pro Stock Hot Bodies driver Oliver Franke again set the pace taking the round from the Awesomatix pairing of Ivan Laptev and Denmark’s Carsten Madsen.  Champion Martin Hofer saw his run ruined when he caught a corner dot on his the second lap resulting in him getting stuck against the track barrier and losing over 4 seconds.  Currently only 6th in the overall qualification ranking the German really needs a good final qualifier if he is to have any chance of starting off his title defence with a win tomorrow.  Fifth for the round Zdenko Kunák’s opening TQ run is still the fastest five minute time so it is still all to play for in the final qualifier with both drivers still seeking their first ever ETS TQ honour.

Q2 Update

Ronald Volker

Day 2 of the opening race of the 2011/12 Yokomo European Touring Series has got underway with the second round of qualifying with Ronald Volker continuing to set the pace as he improved on his Q1 time from last night to once again head the Tamiya Racing Factory team-mates Marc Rheinard and Viktor Wilck.

Knocking 1.5 seconds off his opening qualifying run, Volker said other than one moment when his LRP powered BD5 WXi got up on the two wheels it was another clean run.  Feeling he was lacking a little corner speed compared with yesterday the reigning Champion plans to make some small set-up changes for Q3.  With two TQ runs in the bag the German ace was more concerned for his team-mates who struggled badly with traction roll this morning.  Running different set-ups to Volker both Naoto Matsukura and Yannic Prümper will try his set-up for their next run.

Viktor Wilck

Crashing on his penultimate lap, Rheinard said even without losing the 1.5 seconds he was struggling to match Volker’s pace.  Putting the speed of his rival down to the expertise of the Yokomo drivers engineer Umino Yukijiro, Rheinard said his own car feels easy to drive giving you the confidence to push hard but then suddenly gets edgy and very inconsistent.  Admitting he is not really sure what to change to cure the problem the World Champion will switch from Tamiya springs to a set of his own MR33 brand springs for Q3.  Wilck, who switched from running a geardiff in Q1 to a spool, said the change made little difference and his Thunder Power equipped TRF417x still had no steering and it was only a clean run that allowed him to take third for the round some 5 seconds adrift of Volker.

Annoyed with his driving in the opening qualifying Team Xray’s Alexander Hagberg was much happier with his fourth fastest time in Q2. Loosing some time after a coming together with team-mate Zdenko Kunák, the Swede said he drove a lot more consistent and although this felt slow the times were ‘OK’.  Looking for a more aggressive car he will try a different set-up for his next run. Fastest Xray in the opening qualifier in which he was fifth, Kunák could only manage 17th for the round.

Andy Moore

Although fifth for the round, a big improvement on yesterday’s performance, former World Champion Andy Moore said he was still way off the pace on a track which he said is not particularly difficult.  Having changed his shock set-up for the run the factory Hot Bodies driver said it was better but he still needs to find more steering. Running HPI Flux Pro electrics in his TCX he will try a different additive for Q3.  HB team-mate Freddy Sudhoff, who is happier with his car having switched to the same set-up as Dominic Fleischmann set the seventh fastest time just behind the Kyosho of Christopher Krapp.

Oliver Franke

In the Xray Pro-Stock class, in which their are 166 competitors, former race winner Oliver Franke TQ’d the second qualifier by just 11/100ths from Zdenko Kunák who took Q1.  Franke said he made his Hot Bodies more flexible for his second run and while it didn’t make it faster it made it easier to drive.  The German said he is not sure whether to change his set-up for Q3 to try make the car faster or continue with the safe set-up he has now.

Champion of the Xray Pro Stock class Schumacher driver Martin Hofer, who was only 8th fastest in the opening heat, changed the bump steer on his car which he said solved his problem at one particular corner where he was struggling with traction roll.  The German said he is still lacking pace but having made the car easier to drive his confidence is much better today.  Last season’s Dutch ETS race winner John Bruins took fourth for the round.

Volker tops timed practice

Volker tops timed practice

Ronald Volker has topped practice for the opening round of the 2011/12 Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the reigning champion improving on his earlier pace set in the second timed practice to be seeded no.1 for qualifying. The Yokomo driver improved his average for three consecutive laps by 1/10 of a second to end practice in Muelheim-Kaerlich over 2/10th faster than Xray’s Alexander Hagberg with Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard dropping a spot to third.

Naoto Matsukura

Not featuring at the sharp end of the time sheets after first timed practice Japanese ace Naoto Matsukura found a chunk of time to set the fourth fastest time ahead of his Yokomo team-mate Yannic Prümper who also improved. Suffering from oversteer in TP1 the back to back 1:12 World Champion changed his suspension set-up and oil for the final practice. While much better, the 18-year-old said his BD5 WXi went to having a little understeer and he was now working on a set-up that would give him steering somewhere inbetween.

Factory Kyosho driver Christopher Krapp completed the top 6 ahead of TRF driver Viktor Wilck. Although shown at the top of the timesheets due to short lap after he missed a section of track when he rolled his TRF417x in TP1, on manual correction of the lap he ends practice classified 7th ahead of France’s Loic Jasmin.

Zdenko Kunák

In the Xray Pro Stock class, Slovakian Zdenko Kunák set the pace for Xray when he was the only driver to record a 13 second lap average. Fastest in the first timed practice Oliver Franke improved on his time but ended up second just ahead of champion Martin Hofer and winner of the last season’s finale Ivan Laptev.

Champion Volker heads practice at ETS season opener

LRFri-VolkerAct

Defending champion Ronald Volker has set the pace in the opening timed practice at the season opener of the 2011/12 Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the Yokomo ace fastest over three laps from his great rival and last season’s runner-up Marc Rheinard with Xray’s Alexander Hagberg third fastest.

LRFri-Track-1

The start of the fifth season of the ETS, the 6-round series has moved away from Kastellaun, it traditional opening event, to an all new and bigger venue in Muelheim-Kaerlich near Koblenz where almost three hundred racers from around the globe have descended for the weekend.  Featuring a track designed by Spanish racer Toni Mateo, who will host the third round of the series in Gran Canary in March, the track looks like a permament track thanks to the use of black carpet.  Featuring the main straight directly in front of the rostrum, the layout is coming in for a lot of praise from drivers.

LRFri-ErikDankel

As defending champions Yokomo have come to the opening race here in Germany with a huge presence including two interesting new signings.  Joining Volker, Yannic Prumper, who came on strong in the second half of last season to finish third overall, and 1:12 World Champion Naoto Matsukura, who took his first big international touring car win earlier this month at the IIC in Las Vegas are Eric Dankel and Adrian Bersten.  Both former Xray drivers Dankel’s move comes following a difference of opinion with his former team and his disillusionment with the tyre additive issues that have dogged onroad nitro racing this year.  One of nitro racing’s leading international drivers, the German said his focus is now on electric racing where he says the ETS has created a very fair and competitive environment in which to race.  Fitting in the opening two rounds of last season’s ETS around his World Championship nitro commitments Dankel went on to dominate in Pro stock but is back this year for a full campaign of Modified.  Having had just one previous outing with his LRP powered BD5 WXi, he is looking forward this weekend as it will be his first chance to work with the factory team who have Umino Yukijiro on hand for technical support.  In the first timed practice Dankel set the 11th fastest time.  Former European junior champion Bernsten has got his new deal with Yokomo off to a good start setting the 6th fastest time in early practice.

LRFri-Volker

In the middle of an intense few weeks of racing which started out with a race in Australia, followed by the IIC in Vegas then China last week and sees him head of to Hong Kong following this weekend, Volker said he is very confident about his ETS title defence. Happy with the feel of his car in practice which he heads by over a 1/10th of a second from Rheinard, the German gave the track layout a thumbs up.  Asked about his set-up he said together with Umino they were just fine tuning the balance to get maximium steering without traction roll but he is very comfortable with the set-up they have already reached.

LRFri-RheinardAct

Having enjoyed a strong finish to last season’s ETS when he won both asphalt rounds, World Champion Marc Rheinard said he was surprised at his pace as his Speed Passion powered Tamiya TRF417X felt a lot worse than was reflected in the times.  Struggling with the car, which features a chassis plate that uses a differently constructed carbon fibre, he said he is lacking corner speed and suffering from understeer.  The German will try running a softer shock oil for the final round of practice ahead of this evening’s opening round of qualifying.  A regular visitor to the MotoGP paddock as a guest of the Ducati team, Rheinard ran a special bodyshell in practice to remember fallen rider Marco Simoncelli.  A total of four of the bodyshells have been painted up to reflect the helmet colours of the highly talent Italian rider with three of the large Italian contigent here running the others.  Throughout the busy pit area here at the Philipp-Heift Halle there are many tributes to the #58 rider.  Posting the fifth fastest time Rheinard’s TRF team-mate Viktor Wilck reported his Thunder Power equipped TRF417x, in which he is running prototype double jointed Tamiya front drive shafts, has the same issues and will also try a softer shock oil.

LRFri-HagbergCar

Heading the factory Xray team, Hagberg said his T3 2012 was a little difficult to drive but was fast.  Describing the track as ‘very technical’ the Swede said he does not plan to make any set-up changes but will instead focus on tyre additive in an attempt to make the car a little easier to drive.  This weekend marks the first event with new partner Ride being the controlled tires.  Used by competitors at the final two asphalt events last season a softer tyre is being used here with drivers reporting very good durability and consistency.

LRFri-FleischmannAct

A driver to spring up a number of surprises last season Hot Bodies’ Dominik Fleischmann set the sixth fastest time.  Describing his LRP powered TCX as ‘pretty much dialled’ the German said he was pretty satisfied with the start to his weekend as University commitments have meant he has had little time to prepare for the event.  Factory Hot Bodies driver Andy Moore, who enjoyed victory in China last weekend which was attended by most of the top drivers in action here, set the 10th fastest time.  The newly crowned British Champion said the mixture of high and low speed corners is making it hard for him to get a good balance.  Happy with his TCX on the tight corners he said the open corners are a struggle.

One of only three drivers to enjoy victory in the top class of the ETS last season Team Associated’s Juho Levanen was 12th fastest.  The Finn said he was able to run a couple of good laps but he just hasn’t been able to run three consecutively.  Having started to try something new in terms of set-up he said it wasn’t the right direction to take and reverting back to his carpet set-up from last season for the first timed practice he said the car was much better.

In the Xray Pro Stock class, Hot Bodies driver Oliver Franke headed the first timed practice ahead of the Schumacher of defending champion Martin Hofer.

Volker & Hofer crowned ETS Champions

Ronald & Umino

Ronald Volker and Martin Hofer have been officially crowned champions of the 2010/11 Yokomo Euro Touring Series with the two Germans being presented with their winning trophies at a ceremony at the season finale at Andernach, Germany.

Slightly disappointed not to end his ultra successful campaign with win number 4, Volker had to be content with second overall for the sixth round behind Marc Rheinard but did get to close off the fourth season of the ETS with a Yokomo 1-2, a result that would secure third in the overall standings for team-mate Yannic Prumper.  Winning three of the six events on the calendar, four of which he started from pole, Volker was delighted with the outcome of his first full ETS campaign saying it always felt good to beat his great rival Rheinard, the man from whom he takes away the title. Summing up his campaign the reigning European Champion paid tribute to the support and efforts of his Japanese Yokomo team in particular his engineer Umino.   Dominating the indoor races Volker said this was key to securing the overall title which ends Tamiya’s reign of the premiere class since the creation of the ETS back in 2007.

Able to sit out the third A-Main having secured his second win of the season earlier in the day, Rheinard said it was good to end the season with back to back wins as it showed the Tamiya team had made good progress with the TRF417. Runner-up in the ETS standings, the World Champion said they still have work to do in getting the car right on carpet but is already realising the challenge of going head to head with Volker and Yokomo in the 2011/12 series.

Martin Hofer

Although he endured one of his toughest races of the season in Andernach, finishing up 7th overall, new Pro Stock Champion Hofer said he had achieved his overall goal. Joining Schumacher from the second round of the series, which he duly TQ’d and won, he said it was great to repay the British company and his long time sponsor GM Racing with the title. The first full season of running spec Speed Passion speedos and motors, Hofer endorsed the move by the ETS organisers saying it had made for really close racing and he thoroughly enjoyed his campaign.

Pro Stock

For Ivan Laptev today’s racing will be moment he is going to remember for a long time as he secured his biggest ever victory.  Winning the third leg of the Xray Pro Stock A-main the Russian driver secured his first ETS win and the first international success for the unique Awesomatix chassis.  The result helped Laptev to finish runner-up in the championship and having finished third last season he said next year his aim must be the title.  Having come close to winning in Poland, the win here was made all the more special by the fact his father, a popular figure in the pits, was on hand to see his son win as was the designer of the A700 Oleg Babich for whom this was a very special moment for the small new company.

Hobby Series Top 10

The smaller of the three classes that make up the ETS, but a very important one especially for the nurturing of the future Volkers and Hofers of the sport, the Hobby Class also crowned a deserving champion today with Oliver Günther making it a great year for Germany.  The force of touring car racing in Europe winning all three titles.

ETS Team

The 2010/11 Euro Touring Series has come to a close with a record entry of 251 drivers from 28 countries around the World being part of the season finale.  Now 21 races old, the fourth season further endorses the ETS’ status as the world largest touring car championship with a total of 644 drivers taking part this season.  The creators of the series, Scotty Ernst and Uwe Rheinard, have asked us to thank all the drivers and their families who have been a part of making the ETS as big as it is.  They wanted to also thank all the clubs who hosted races this season and the sponsors in particular Yokomo, Xray, Xenon, Speed Passion and Hudy, who showed faith in their vision for the series.
