ETS heads outdoors as Apeldoorn hosts Round 5

ETS heads outdoors as Apeldoorn hosts Round 5

The Yokomo Euro Touring Series gets back underway this weekend following a three month break with the beautiful Apeldoorn track in the Netherlands hosting the fifth round and first outdoor race of the 2010/11 season. Making a return to the ETS having previously held the Dutch round during the 2008/09 series, over 200 drivers will compete at Apeldoorn including two time champion Jilles Groskamp who took victory on the last visit to the track en route to successfully defending the inaugural ETS title.

His first appearance in this season’s ETS, the Dutch driver who is now based in Thailand, will join up with his Tamiya Racing Factory team-mates Marc Rheinard and Viktor Wilck as they seek their first win of 2010/11. Having won the Modified title every year since the creation of the series, Tamiya have had a lean season so far with defending champion Rheinard having struggled to match the pace of champion elect Ronald Volker.

Having seen their 100% winning run come to an end at the fourth round in Poland, Volker and his Yokomo team will be out to reaffirm themselves as the dominant force of the 2010/11 series. The man responsible for that first defeat was Team Associated’s Juho Levanen. 18 races after winning the first ever ETS race back in 2007, the Finnish ace took the TC6 to its first major European victory and will be looking to pick up where he left off and add to the car’s achievements this weekend.

One driver who will be looking to upset the regular front runners in the Xenon Modified class is Christopher Krapp. The factory Kyosho driver showed two weeks ago that his TF-6 is competitive on asphalt when he won the Warm-up race for the European Championships in Austria ahead of Yokomo team driver Yannic Prümper and Xray ace Alexander Hagberg.

In the Xray Pro-Stock class, standings leader Martin Hofer will be looking to make it three in a row for British manufacturer Schumacher but defending champion Alexander Stocker is back and will be looking to end his winning drought. Also set to be serious contenders for victory are Polish Top Qualifier Ivan Laptev with the Russian designed Awesomatix, last year’s Dutch round winner, when the race was held at Heemstede, Oliver Franke and local star Rob Janssen who put his extensive track knowledge to good use two years ago when he completely dominated the event.

Round 5, the penultimate round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series, gets underway with practice on Friday and culminates with triple mains for all drivers on Sunday. All the action from Apeldoorn can be followed live throughout the weekend on RedRC.

Charity Auction in aid of Japan

Charity Auction in aid of Japan

With the recent tragedy in Japan still fresh in our mind and the clean up and humanitarian effort still on going the Euro Touring Series and RC community, which has strong ties with this country, will do its part to help raise funds to help with the recovery. Weeks in planning and the brain child of ETS regular Phil Hoggart, there will be an auction taking place during the 5th round of the series in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. This will not only help a good cause, with the proceeds going to the Red Cross, but is an opportunity to bag yourself some awesome products and memorabilia. Going under the hammer are products from many major manufacturers, as well as the chance to get your hands on bodies and other items from top racers such as Marc Rheinard, Jilles Groskamp, Alexander Hagberg and more. Even if you are not competing at the event, be sure to come by the track and participate in the auction which will take place on Saturday afternoon following racing.

Change of control tire for final 2 rounds

Change of control tire for final 2 rounds

As the summer approaches, It brings us closer to our next ETS event round 5 which will be held at the beautiful Apeldoorn race track in the Netherlands. This track is one of the nicest facilities in Europe and has a tremendous club who will work with us to give all of you a fantastic event and the experience you expect from the ETS team.

As we move toward our next event we need to let all of you know of some changes we have had to make for the final 2 events. As everyone is well aware of, on March 11th a tragic earthquake and tsunami struck Japan causing a huge loss of life and tragedy for families and business throughout Japan and the world. As our hearts go out to all of them as they try to rebuild their lives and businesses, we have to continue to move forward in life and hope that something like this will never happen again.

As we do work to move forward, this tragedy has touched the ETS team in the area of our tires we were planning on using for the final 2 ETS events. As a result of the earthquake, 2 of the factories operated by a large supplier of the chemicals used in the tire process are down. One factory is located right near the nuclear plant in Fukushima and the other is located within the 20km zone surrounding the nuclear plant. Orders to these factories have now been redirected to other suppliers however they have not been able to keep up with demand. Due to this problem, the ETS team has had to be proactive and search for a high quality tire that will give the racers the high quality of event you have come to expect with an ETS race. Uwe, Marc and Toni along with other racers from the Apeldoorn area tested some tires recently and we have found a very good replacement to the Sorex. For the final 2 ETS events, we will be using the Ride TR tire. The testing the guys did shows these tires produce great lap times, consistent wear and very similar performance to the Sorex tire.

We are confident that these tires will work perfectly for our events and want you all to know that these tires are really good. We are sorry to have to make this change but if we did not react now, the chance of not having tires for the race would be almost 100%.
